THE ACTIVITY OF ALTIS  CUSTOMERS & MARKETS

Altis Semiconductor is currently extremely well positioned in several sectors of the electronics market and is also poised to progress in high growth sectors:

 Mobile phone business

This market segment represents 40% of Altis Semiconductor's manufacturing capacity.
Altis Semiconductor manufactures baseband components using both the GSM standard mainly in Europe and the CDMA standard in the USA and Asia.
20% of the mobile phones sold in the world using the CDMA standard and 10% of the phones using the GSM standard have a baseband manufactured by Altis Semiconductor. These components use CMOS Copper logic and analogic technologies and apply to the entire range of mobile phones.
Altis Semiconductor also delivers the first chips that can support both the WBCDMA and GSM 3G standards.
For mobile phone chip sets, Altis Semiconductor supplies radio signal and frequency components using RF technology options, Bluetooth components that enable wireless communication with a computer or palm.
Lastly, the SIM card, an authentification and security feature which uses controllers with embedded flash memory produced by Altis Semiconductor using 0.25µm and 0.22µm flash technologies. Two thirds of our security products are designed for SIM cards in 2004.
The applications of our e-flash components have been extended to identification systems with chip passport or ID card applications and financial applications using paid television. The qualification of products including encoded controllers will soon open up the banking market for Altis Semiconductor.

 Networks and Internet

This market segment accounts for approximately 20% of Altis Semiconductor's manufacturing, underpinned by the dedicated use of complex products which are most often based on 0.13µm technology.
The products manufactured by Altis Semiconductor fall into two major categories: high speed Internet routers and components used to distribute and access end user data such as ADSL and VDSL. Our components currently apply to ADSL distribution lines, but we will produce components to equip domestic and industrial modems as of 2005.
Altis Semiconductor also features a full range of components used to distribute voice on IP networks and data on voice networks.

 Computers

The computer products manufactured by Altis Semiconductor fall into two main categories:

  • cache memory controllers of major IBM systems using high value added products with embedded memory,
  • peripherals, controllers and read write channel for hard drives, optical mouse components and certain screen controllers.
Most of our products are designed for hard drives. In 2004, Altis Semiconductor delivered the first SoC (System On a Chip) components integrating the full range of functions of the read head, also benefiting from our technical strategy offering our customers all the basics of the System On a Chip. Our components also equip mobiles as well as servers (ATA and SATA technology). The latest developments include minidrives that equip certain MP3 readers.

 General Public

80% of the products of this highly diversified sector include audio and video controllers for televisions, certain game consoles and GPS display screens in cars. Image controller components for office video projectors and digital cinema also represent a significant product application.

 Industry

This market segment is only partly developed but offers a wide range of applications. Two examples: components used for hearing equipment and components designed for applications of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

 Automobile

The automobile sector is an extremely promising sector. It currently only accounts for a slight portion of our production, but should develop to 10% to 12% within the next four years. Our technologies are used for engine control applications and the control of security systems (ABS, airbag, etc.) and information for the driver. Vehicles equipped with this type of 32 bit controller are hitting the market.

Moving towards a synergy of different sectors of activity

The market is developing towards a combination of the different sectors of activity: connectivity of computers, mobile phones and networks/Internet, connectivity to applications for the general public and therefore convergence between data and audio video and emergence of multimedia. An initial component of this type combining audio, video and home telephony via a simple computer, manufactured by Altis Semiconductor, was recently demonstrated with success.
