Altis active for a cleaner Seine River
In
order to purify some of the wastewater released in the Seine, Altis has implemented
a new process, referred to as "ultrafiltration", which eliminates the suspended
colloidal silica from the water.
Colloidal silica is used for its light abrasive qualities in polishing silicon wafers. Polishing produces a large amount of solution with a high concentration of colloidal silica. The waste is whitish in color and, although not toxic, it clouds water.
Altis is equipped the latest technology to remedy this situation, using ultrafiltration membranes to filter and collect these particles. This process produces both clearer wastewater and a pure, concentrated solution which can be re-used as an additive in cement work.
Silica is recovered in a storage vat and transported to a local cement plant which uses it as a raw material in its production processes.
